Well, Hanoi was really special, despite its flaws. Some travel bloggers have written about their bad experiences in Vietnam. Still, I chose to dive into Vietnam with curiosity.

Hoan Kiem Lake

Visiting the serene Hoan Kiem Lake is a must-do in Hanoi. It’s a freshwater lake in the city’s heart. At the lake, you might see locals doing Tai Chi. Or, you can enjoy a walk around the lake’s beauty. Legend has it that a giant turtle once lived in the lake and helped defeat an enemy army by giving a magical sword to a hero. Can you get any more unique than that?

Hanoi Old Quarter

Head to the lively Old Quarter for more unique experiences. The streets there are named after trades from the past. It’s full of life, with street food to try and night markets in Hanoi for souvenirs.

Ngoc Son Temple

Ngoc Son Temple sits on a tiny island in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake. It’s been there since the 14th century, which means it’s older than most of the buildings you’ll see. When you walk across the red-painted Huc Bridge to get there, you’ll feel like you’re in a dream!

The reflection of the temple in the water is pure magic. Plus, the temple’s architecture is incredibly beautiful with its red bridge, ornate gates, and ancient trees surrounding it.

Train Street is another incredible spot in Hanoi. Here, shops and cafes are very close to an active train track. It’s very neat to see the narrow street and houses and cafes so close to the tracks. This is also an incredible spot for street photography in Hanoi.

Hanoi Food

Hanoi is an amazing travel destination for food alone. When I visited, I found the Hanoi food and Vietnamese street food in Hanoi unforgettable. Exploring Hanoi’s food scene was incredible. I got to try the flavors that locals love. I visited simple street food and fancy places to eat, each offering something special.

At my hotel in Hanoi, there was a massive breakfast spread of the most delicious fruit I’ve ever eaten in my life! That’s not even mentioning the pho cooked right there in front of me. Later in my trip, my sister and I ate at a 5-star restaurant with multiple luxurious courses and drinks for a total of $15 USD. Yes, for two people.

If the Vietnamese cuisine alone in Hanoi doesn’t make Hanoi worth visiting, I don’t know what does. In Hanoi, you can choose from a leisurely street food walk to an upscale meal. Hanoi’s wide range of options and great food make it an incredible destination if you love great food.

A day trip to Ninh Binh is a popular thing to do while in Hanoi. Dubbed the “Halong Bay on land,” is also a unique experience and great place to visit. Thinking back on my time in Hanoi, I’m just so glad I had the experience of traveling there. The city’s rich history and culture were incredible to learn about and be a part of. It had amazing street food, too! My experience with this might be different from others but, I loved Hanoi.

Reports show that Vietnam has fewer repeat visitors than other Southeast Asian countries. This might mean that while Hanoi is popular to visit, it doesn’t always leave a good lasting impression. It’s interesting, because I would definitely go back to Hanoi again. In my experience, Hanoi is worth visiting.
